Vintage Tofani Door (Atomic Era Door)

Mid-Century modern doors are the hidden passages to happier times. 

We're selling some pieces from the Tony Trov Collection over the next few weeks. 

This excellent vintage piece was found in South Philly. A home being remodeled was unable to maintain this old beauty. We call this design pattern "The Starburst", it's a fantastic aesthetic with the original glass still in tact. The black beauty is BIG, so it can be shave down to fit smaller entries. This is a quick refinish for any hobbyist hoping to bring that authentic Philly feel to their threshold.

As America moved into the space age so did Tofani. Their large colonial style windows evolved into a series of pop inspired shapes. Overlapping circles, boomerangs, diamonds, teardrops, and hourglass configurations were cut into the doors to frame textured or tinted glass. This was a very modern look at the time and it swept across the city, spawning many imitators. Tofani’s ornamentation was unique to their company. These little signatures are how we can tell the originals apart from their competitors.
